What is Studio Tisch?

In short, it is a festival of new work and continuing education initiative of the Graduate Acting Alumni Association (GAAA), generously hosted by NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Each summer, NYU Grad Acting alumni may apply for free use of rehearsal rooms, the Shubert Theater, and other 5th Floor resources to create their own work and explore their own artistry in myriad ways.

Projects cover a wide range of possibilities: writing workshops, staged readings, clown shows, film festivals, fully-staged performances, improvisational explorations, proofs-of-concept for screenplays, “classes” for those developing teaching curriculums, scene study series, theatrical seances, and more.

The Studio Tisch summer season culminates each year with our Alumni Cabaret. Participation is open to all Grad Acting alumni. Material can include anything from musical performances to clowning lazzis to spoken word to magic acts to improv comedy/stand up. The cabaret is another vivid celebration of our alumni’s diverse talents — part open-mic night, part Sharings, what you will.

Studio Tisch is an opportunity for the Grad Acting community to connect across the decades in collaboration, volunteer work, and shared experience of what we are each creating right now. The goal is to plant seeds that will generate increasing opportunity and support for our graduates in the years to come.
