A Trojan Woman's Tale by Naomi Lorrain

written by Naomi Lorrain '16

directed by Jim Calder

Shubert Theatre

What happens to a girl defiled?
Does she close up
like an iris in the sun?
Or rage like a war-
Until won?
Does she fear everyone she meets?
Or live and start over-
Like a cat in the streets?
Maybe she just croaks
like a hungry toad.
Or does no one know?*
A comedic, yet tragic retelling of Euripides’ Greek tragedy The Trojan Women that explores power, gender and politics both past and present.

*Poem based on “Harlem (A Dream Deferred)” by Langston Hughes.
