THE BODY TALKS BACK
curated by Lily Balatincz '14 and Stephanie Lane '16
A program of short movement theatre works exploring the questions surrounding what it means to be woman in 2018 in the wake of the election of Trump, the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct allegations, the Women's March and the #metoo movement. Created and performed by female identifying NYU Grad Acting alumni, this project explores the explicit and implicit ways sexual objectification of the female body manifests in American society. Calling upon elements of dance, postmodernism, performance art, various movement practices including techniques used in the realm of theatre and acting, as well as therapeutic healing arts, ancestral tradition and ritual, this project provides a platform for the female body to have a conversation with an audience about politics, trauma, healing, the divine feminine, and change.
